AIRLINE TRAVEL

The cheapest flights to South Africa are from London or Amsterdam, and it often works out better to get a connecting flight to either and from there a flight to Johannesburg (JNB) or Cape Town (CPT). Those are the two airports who have connection with Port Elizabeth (PLZ). We recommend to travel with one of the major airlines, for they give the best service and are the most reliable:

• Airports Company of South Africa: www.acsa.co.za
• Air France www.airfrance.co.za or www.airfrance.com
• British Airways: www.ba.com
• Cathay Pacific: www.cathaypacific.com
• Kenya Airways: www.kenya-airways.com
• KLM – Royal Dutch Airlines: www.klm.co.za
• Lufthansa: www.lufthansa.com
• Qantas: www.qantas.com.au
• South African Airways: www.flysaa.com
• Swiss Air: www.swiss.com
• Varig Brazilian Airlines: www.varig.com

When you arrive at the airport in P.E., one of our staff members will pick you up to take you to your accommodation. Forward your flight details and estimated arrival time for us to meet you promptly. On your day of departure we’ll give you a ride back to the airport.

Generally, it takes one between eight and ten hours to get to South Africa from London or Amsterdam.

Airline travel with boards

There are no standardised rules when it comes to airline charges for surfboards. Some airlines have a fixed fee per board bag or per weight of boards, but most are dependant on many factors such as the airport and what time you check-in, the plane's passenger and luggage capacity, your appearance and attitude and most importantly the mood of the person at the check-in counter. Usually body boarders will not have to pay excess, unlike long boarders, who sometimes don't get their boards on at all.

Some of the more crucial points to remember include:

· Arrive early, dress well and be polite
· Ask your travel agent on airline's policy, and make sure to double check by phoning the check-in
desk at the airport
· Warn the airline to help them manage their luggage capacity.
· Most airlines charge per bag, so pack all your boards in one board bag. Always use a tough
durable board bag, and give extra protection to the fins.
