Aloha,
Robin - Etienne,
The Surf Art & Photography Gallery has opened at 3 Pepper Street, in the carpark at Supertubes, Jeffreys Bay. In conjunction with the gallery is the new website www.j-bay.com which features the full range of artworks and products for sale plus lots of other cool graphic and photographic content for surfers interested in Jeffreys Bay.
A combined effort between local artists and photographers, the gallery/surf shop and website provide an outlet for the varied works of Yvonne and Garth Robinson, Martin Bakker, Deon Lategan, Stephen Bibb, Clive Barber, Ross Campbell and others.
On sale are framed and unframed Giclée (fine art archival quality) photo and art prints on acid free paper and canvas, plus original artworks and limited edition etchings. Vintage surfboards for the serious collector are on display alongside Bruce Gold Signature Model longboards while more new and used surfing equipment will be added soon.
There is also a range of J-Bay, Bruces Beauties and Cape St Francis coffee mugs featuring surf art and photographic prints, as well as glass-topped J-Bay coasters in wooden display boxes. Surfing moms will want to check out Yvonne Robinson's popular Soul Surfer kiddies surfwear with her trademark hippy kombi and beetle designs.
Also on offer is locally made Stoked surf wax and Hessequa hand-made leather sandals, while those looking for a wild read can get a signed copy of Donald Paarman's Lunatic Surfer book. Soon to be added are surfing DVD's and the long-awaited second edition of the Australian-made Switch-Foot book, totally devoid of advertising and focussing on the historical and artistic sides of surfing. This book will include J-Bay images from local photographer Clive Barber and an early sample copy will be on display in the gallery before the rest of the stock arrives early in the new year. Also on the way are the sought after books Way of the Bird by Andrew Kidman and Andy Davis and the Patrick Trefz classic, Thread.
You can also book a surf action photo shoot of your next session with the high resolution images burnt to a CD or available as a glossy photo or canvas print.
The gallery is open daily around midday over December 2009. You can also call Garth Robinson (083 723 9508) who can be there in 5 minutes to open up. Sam du Toit (084 513 4720) over the road at the African Perfection reception will also open up for you if she is around.
We are also looking to network with other surf artists and surf media publishers within the surfing brotherhood who have an interest in J-Bay.
Aloha & Howzit
