Its an absolute must to bring Alison and her crew a visit when you are in J-Bay at the Supertubes Surfing Foundation located at the Supertubes Park.
The Supertubes Surfing Foundation is a non profit (Section 21 Company) organisation dedicated to the preservation of the dunes and beaches of Jeffrey's Bay. It's been operational since 1999 and initiated by the local surf clubs, J bay Boardriders and JBU.
Since it's inception over 6000 aloes have been re-planted on the dunes and thousands of bags of litter have been cleared off the beaches. This venture was seen as a necessity as more people came to settle in town after the building boom of the mid 1990's. With major developments taking place Jeffreys Bay developed from a small fishing village to a busy holiday resort. Unfortunately the influx of people into town, caused environmental damage, resulting in the establishment of the Foundation for the preservation and upkeep of Jeffreys Bay's beautiful beaches and dunes.
Other projects the foundation has tackled in the past - 2 minor oil spills in 1999 and over 50 boxes full of broken glass removed off the beach. Also the Foundation had to deal with vandals destroying/burning replanted Aloe's and also Jackson being threatened by vagrants. Over the past year the foundation has concentrated on the rescue of indigenous plants from land earmarked for development. These plants are all waiting to be re established in the park.
