Jordy Smith visits SA Junior Team training camp

South Africa’s best surfer Jordy Smith visited the 2011 SA Junior Surfing Team during their training camp at the Sports Science Institute in Newlands over the weekend and spent time talking to the team members about where it all started for him.

The 2011 SA Junior Team were at their first training camp as part of their preparations for the 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships which take place in Punta Hermosa, Peru from 21 – 29 May.
Jordy outlined what the young South African team needed to do to get to the top and told them that he was confident that they would do South Africa proud in Peru.
Smith, currently the ASP World No. 2 ranked surfer, started his illustrious career representing South Africa at the age of 14. He competed for South Africa in Durban in the 2003 ISA World Junior Championships where he won gold medal in the Under 16 Division.

In 2005 he reached the Under 18 final at the ISA World Junior championships in California and won a silver medal in the Under 18 Division in Brazil in 2006. Later that year he won World Championship title at the ISA World Games in California.
Since joining the World Tour Smith has made a huge impression, qualifying for the World Championship Tour by a record margin in his first year and winning the Hawaiian Triple Crown Rookie of the Year title in 2008.
He won both the Mr Price Pro and the Billabong Pro J’Bay in 2010 and finishing the year as the runner up to 10-time World Champion Kelly Slater.
